Oklahoma's water damage risk is driven largely by the severe thunderstorms common across Tornado Alley, which can produce intense, fast moving flash floods in addition to tornado risk. The state experienced major flooding in May 2015, when a historic wet month caused rivers and streams across much of Oklahoma to overflow. Flat to rolling terrain in many areas can also slow drainage, allowing water to pool during major rain events.
